SPAR to Enter Israel

Israel’s largest supermarket chain Shufersal has signed a deal with the Dutch-owned chain SPAR to increase competition in the local grocery market.

Shufersal has agreed to invest in the opening of ten SPAR stores across the country in the next three years and will also import and sell 10,000  SPAR products exclusively in its stores.

The move comes as the French chain Carrefour and 7-Eleven recently announced the opening of hundreds of stores between them in the next few years.

The Israeli grocery market is currently dominated by three major players, and the country suffers from one of the highest costs of living among OECD countries.
