Steaks Available at Request Only

Aldi in the UK has removed steaks from some of its shelves as shoplifters increasingly target high-end meat cuts. Signs in the meat section at several London stores read:

“Steaks Available By Request. Please check available products to the right and request by name from one of our checkout attendants. These products are request only to keep our colleagues and community safe from anti-social behaviour.”

An Aldi spokesperson said it was a local issue and not a nationwide policy to remove steaks from the shelves.

Steaks are targets for thieves as they can easily be sold door-to-door or to pubs. Experts believe thefts can cost stores up to 15 percent of profits. When managers have to hide products away, it shows the store is suffering huge losses.
