Vegemite Celebrating 100 Years with Limited Edition Coin

It is iconic Australiana at its best, and a pantry favourite all over the world. Vegemite is loved for its bitter taste, made from leftover brewers' yeast extract with various vegetable and spice additives.

The centennial celebrations for the Aussie icon are being commemorated by the Royal Australian Mint, in association with Woolworths, by releasing a limited edition range of $2 coins. The coins are available to shoppers paying in cash, who will be able to collect three coins in change.

Designed by Royal Australian Mint coin designer, Aaron Baggio, the series of coins feature illustrations celebrating the first 100 years of the company. A coloured ring in the Vegemite brand colours of yellow, red, and black will outline each coin, which are joined by past and present Vegemite catchphrases.

Three million commemorative coins will be available for customers to collect, with one design being released each week across a three-week period.

The first coin will encompass a jar of Vegemite as the main image, with the words ‘100 Mitey Years’ accompanying it. The second will feature a slice of toast inscribed with ‘Tastes like Australia,’ and the third with a slice of toast and the words ‘Happy Little Vegemites.’

Jane Saleh, Woolworths brand and marketing director, said that the range is a proud moment for the company.

“Woolworths has ranged Vegemite for decades and it’s been a staple in the shopping baskets of Australians for years. We’re delighted to be a part of the celebrations for this iconic brand’s centenary,” said Saleh.

Bega marketing manager for spreads, Jess Hoare, said that the celebration won’t be official until the 25th of October.
