WOOLWORTHS UNDER FIRE FOR NZ AVOCADOS

Woolworth has recently made changes to its supply chain in Queensland, switching from local to New Zealand avocados one month earlier than expected. The move has been strongly criticised by Aussie avocado growers, who claimed they hadn’t been consulted. Switching over too early to NZ fruit, they pointed out, ‘could potentially lead to a collapse in September'.
On its part, Woolworths explained that the company had received feedback suggesting that high-quality local avocado numbers were falling by 40 percent, hence the decision to add extra supply from NZ.
