USA | Whole Foods Market will open a new 46,500-square-foot store located at the Town Centre Drive in the Summerlin community of Las Vegas, Nevada, on the 15th of May.
The store is a relocation of the existing Fort Apache store. The new location’s product assortment features more than 100 local items from Nevada, sourced with the help of Lisa Tosun, Forager for Local and Emerging Brands at Whole Foods Market.
On opening morning, Whole Foods Market will provide an all-electric refrigerated van and food donation to Celestial Manna. The company makes regular surplus food pickups from local Whole Foods Market stores to help prevent food waste and serve the surrounding community.
Both donations are part of Whole Foods Market’s Nourishing Our Neighborhoods program, which aims to enhance the ability of local food rescue organisations to transport surplus food to areas facing the greatest need.
Features of the new Summerlin store include:
- An array of certified organic, conventional and Sourced for Good produce.
- Specialty department dedicated to celebrating cheesemakers and artisan producers. Local items include mozzarella from Angelo & Franco, Alla Panna from Di Stefano and Mediterranean Kefir Cheese from Karoun. The department also features a cheese counter overseen by trained cheesemongers who can offer recommendations for any occasion.
- Curated grocery section filled with private label favourites from 365 by Whole Foods Market and local products, including Nectis protein bars, dried sweet potato snacks from Sweetpotato Awesome, and ready-to-drink and packaged coffee from Dark Moon Coffee Roasters.
- Full-service meat counter, with butchers offering custom cuts of steak and poultry. Features include dry-aged beef, prime cuts, and pre-seasoned and marinated ready-to-cook meats.
- Full-service seafood counter featuring only sustainable wild-caught or Responsibly Farmed seafood and a large selection of pre-seasoned and marinated ready-to-cook items.
- Extensive selection of more than 850 wines and 450 craft beers.
- Prepared Foods department featuring a hot food bar, salad bar, pizza and made-to-order sandwiches. Customers can also shop for sushi made fresh daily from Kikka.
- Bakery department offering fresh-baked bread as well as everyday favorites, such as Whole Foods Market’s Berry Chantilly Cake and brown butter cookies. The department also carries a wide variety of special diet items, including vegan brownies, cakes and chocolate chip cookies along with several gluten-free selections. Local options include from Bon Breads Baking Co.
- Whole Body department has many wellness, beauty, and lifestyle items. Local products include bath salts from Mike’s Recovery, soap and lotion from Eden Body Care, and plant-based protein powders from Truvani.
Opening morning, customers will enjoy complimentary coffee from Dark Moon Coffee Roasters and Green Super Protein Bars from Nectis.
All food at Whole Foods Market must meet the company’s rigorous Quality Standards, which prohibit hydrogenated fats, high-fructose corn syrup, and more than 300 flavours, colours, sweeteners and other ingredients commonly found in food.
In addition, all beauty and body care products must meet the company’s body care standards, which ban more than 240 commonly used ingredients, including phthalates, parabens and microbeads.
