Tesco Opens Harrogate Superstore

UK | Tesco has been getting ready to welcome customers to the opening of a new Tesco Superstore on Skipton Road, Harrogate, on Tuesday, the 9th of December.

As well as a wide range of great-value food, the new store has provided a GBP 1,000 grant to Resurrected Bites, a food waste charity that runs community cafes in the Harrogate area.

The cutting-edge new store has created around 120 new jobs for the local community and has been built using innovative design, technology and building methods to reduce its environmental impact.

Billed as Tesco’s low carbon concept store, the building brings together a host of sustainability features under one roof, including a timber frame which emits less carbon during construction than a steel one, solar panels to generate electricity for the store, the use of reused stone from a local stoneyard, as well as the latest heating and lighting systems with reduced energy consumption.

Looking ahead, it will continue to play an important role in Harrogate beyond being a great place to shop, thanks to Tesco’s flagship community programmes, Stronger Starts and Community Food Connection. The store will also have a permanent collection point for customers to donate long-life items to support Trussell.

Since its launch in 2015, the Community Food Connection Scheme has also donated more than 300 million meals to local charities across the UK.

Given the pressures on household budgets, Tesco remains committed to providing value now more than ever. With customers increasingly looking to save money on their food shop, this store will offer a combination of Aldi Price Match, Low Everyday Prices and Clubcard Prices to ensure they get the best deals every time they shop.

“We are so pleased to have got to this point where we can finally open the doors and want to thank everyone for their patience. We look forward to having a positive impact in Harrogate and serving our customers,” said Store Manager Annabelle Speed.

The Community Food Connection scheme is run in partnership with food redistribution charity FareShare. Each month, more than a million meals of food are donated.
