The Commerce Commission has received a clearance application from ANZCO Foods Limited to acquire 100 percent of the shares in Greenlea Group Limited.
Both ANZCO and Greenlea acquire cattle for processing at beef processing sites and supply beef products to domestic and export markets. ANZCO operates beef processing sites in both the North and South Islands, and Greenlea operates beef processing sites in the North Island.
Additionally, both ANZCO and Greenlea supply beef production by-products domestically and ANZCO also processes and supplies lamb products. In addition to its processing sites, ANZCO has two manufacturing sites and one finishing site.
The Commission has published a statement of preliminary issues regarding the application. It outlined the key competition issues the Commission considers in deciding whether to grant clearance for the proposed acquisition.
The Commission invites interested parties to provide comments on the likely competitive effects of the proposed acquisition. Any submissions should be received by the close of business on the 7th of July 2026.
The Commission is currently scheduled to make a decision on the application by the 18th of August 2026.
However, this date may be extended with the applicant's agreement if the material before the Commission at that time does not allow it to be satisfied that the proposed acquisition will not have, or would not be likely to have, the effect of substantially lessening competition in a market in New Zealand.
