WOOLWORTHS and Coles would be prevented from opening more stores and be banned from owning more agricultural land under a tough new competition policy unveiled by Australia’s Green Party. There is currently no Australian authority that has power over so-called creeping acquisitions as is happening in grocery. The new policy would also introduce price discrimination regulations where the chains are using their market power to demand especially low prices from suppliers.
