CO-OP SITE UPGRADED TO REDUCE FOOTPRINT

Fonterra’s Edgecumbe site has been upgraded to double the amount of lactose the site is able to recover in a day, allowing the co-operative to make savings from waste. Moreover, the innovation will reduce the facility's environmental footprint by removing solids from its wastewater.
According to Mark Leslie, Fonterra director NZ manufacturing, the $8 million upgrade is highly strategic. “We have found a creative way to use existing technology that will bring great results, save us cash and deliver real value for our farmers,” Leslie said. “This project, and several others planned for the Edgecumbe site in the coming months demonstrate that ongoing commitment.”
