Rotorua can count on a new state-of-the-art supermarket. Countdown Fairy Springs has officially opened its doors in the presence of Cabinet Minister and Rotorua MP Todd McClay, who praised the opening as an encouraging sign for the local economy.
“Thanks to high visitor numbers and strong export markets, the local economy is experiencing strong growth. This investment by Countdown shows confidence in Rotorua as a good place to do business,” McClay said.
Hon Steve Chadwick, Rotorua Mayor, shared the same enthusiasm.
“This is an outstanding modern food store that not only delivers a high standard in grocery retailing, but it also provides a welcome and timely boost to a local economy that’s clearly growing every day,” said Chadwick.
The store, featuring a full production bakery and a sushi bar, created 89 new and permanent jobs. It also includes wider aisles, a bigger fresh produce department and energy efficient fittings and equipment.
