COUNTDOWN TO OPEN SECOND DARK STORE

Countdown is set to open a second eStore in the South Island in October. This will follow on from the opening of its first dark store in April 2020 in Auckland suburb of Penrose to help service the growing demand for online shopping.

"We know that the demand for online shopping continues to grow in Christchurch and whilst we have been opening up more online hubs and delivery windows, the demand continues and if we want to continue to deliver the best service and experience for our online and in-store customers, then the eStore is the natural progression," said Countdown’s general manager digital, Sally Copland.

The new eStore will be built on the back of the existing supermarket and will service online delivery customers from Moorhouse, Eastgate, Colombo Street, Hornby, Ferrymead, Church Corner and The Palms.  Some of these stores will move 100 percent of their online delivery orders to the new eStore, and some will move a smaller proportion depending on what makes sense to create a really efficient delivery network across Christchurch.  Each of the stores will continue to fulfill its customers’ online Pick Up orders which is growing rapidly.
