Drakes hosted its exclusive 50th-anniversary gala dinner over the weekend. Held at the Adelaide Convention Centre on the scenic Riverbank, this was a significant milestone for the company.
Every detail sparkled with gold accents, and the event was celebrated in style. Around 900 people, including suppliers and staff, attended.
The Premier of South Australia, the Hon Peter Malinauskas MP, addressed the room, highlighting the significance of Roger Drake and the Drakes business. This was followed by Drake's General Manager Bob Soang, who presented on behalf of the company and its many staff and shared some remarkable stories over the years.
John-Paul Drake also honoured his father on stage on behalf of the family and future generations.
Phil Shayler, Operations Manager and Drakes' longest-serving employee, presented Roger Drake with his 50-Year Service Badge and a 50-Year Plaque, representing the five decades of Drakes' business from its humble beginnings in 1974 to 2024.
All in the room raised a toast to Roger Drake on his service to the supermarket retail industry, sharing fond memories and reflecting on Drakes' remarkable evolution.
Guests were also treated to a three-course meal while enjoying a lineup of special guests, including renowned Australian violinist Sally Cooper and Delta Goodrem.
As the night unfolded, the celebrations continued with an after-party like no other, where guests continued dancing the night away to celebrate this momentous occasion.
“As Drakes ventures into the next 50 years, it thanks its suppliers, our dedicated staff and most importantly, our valued customers who continue to support an Australian family-owned and operated business,” said Roger Drake.
