EXPLOITED STORE WORKER GRANTED $25,000

Forced to work even 70 hours a week at a Four Square supermarket in Napier, an Indian man has been awarded with unpaid wages and holiday pay by the Employment Relations Authority (ERA), for a total of $25,000.
The ERA established that Amit Sharma was exploited by his employer, mr Patel, who asked him to give up a portion of his salary in return for endorsement of his application for permanent residency. In order to hide this fraudulent payment scheme, Patel even falsified Sharma’s wage records, eventually dismissing him when he refused to meet his request.
