General Export Requirements For Bee Products

General Export Requirements For Bee Products

New Zealand Food Safety has updated the Animal Products Notice: General Export Requirements for Bee Products.

The provision has enabled a beekeeper or operator to apply to the Director General of the Ministry of Primary Industries to re-establish export eligibility for honey. This intends to help when the beekeeper's Ministry of Primary Industries listing has lapsed, and it is impossible or impractical for the beekeeper to renew it.

The clause has been updated to align with proposed changes to the Ministry of Primary Industries' cost recovery settings, which will ensure beekeepers are prepared for the future of honey export.

This bee product provision has been carried over from the revoked Animal Products Notice: Official Assurance Specifications For Animal Material and Animal Products.

Cost recovery plays a vital role in funding MPI services that help ensure the food New Zealand produces is suitable and safe for consumption and export. The Ministry for Primary Industries generally recovers the costs from industry and individuals who benefit from the related services.
