Local Owners Unveil Transformed FreshChoice Mini Fitzroy

Eighteen months after taking over Fitzroy Supermarket, local owners Navdeep Kaur Atwal and Malkit Singh unveiled FreshChoice Mini Fitzroy, marking a new chapter following an extensive refurbishment.

Having opened yesterday, the 30th of June, the transformed New Plymouth supermarket features a refreshed fit-out inside and out, alongside an enhanced range of local produce, everyday grocery essentials and convenient ready-to-go meals.

Atwal said the redevelopment was driven by a desire to create a supermarket that reflects the needs and character of the Fitzroy community.

"Fitzroy is a close-knit community with a strong local identity. We saw an opportunity to create a supermarket that genuinely reflects the people who live here. One that's convenient, welcoming and focused on quality," she said.

Since purchasing the business in December 2024, the husband-and-wife team have invested in upgrading the store, focusing on creating a modern shopping experience while reducing waste where possible.

"We're incredibly proud of what we've created. From the new fit-out to the expanded offering, every decision has been made with our customers in mind and with the goal of giving Fitzroy a supermarket it can be proud of.”

The store will also create local employment opportunities and support schools, clubs, charities and community events across Fitzroy.

FreshChoice Executive General Manager Tim Cartwright said the store reflected the important role local owner-operators play in shaping supermarkets around the needs of their communities.

"Navdeep and Malkit have invested in creating a store that combines quality, convenience and local service, while remaining firmly connected to the community it serves.
