‘SLIGHTLY MALTIER’ MILK WITHDRAWN FROM SHELVES

A small batch of Value Standard, Anchor Blue and Dairy Dale Standard milk that tasted ‘slightly maltier than usual’ has been withdrawn from supermarket shelves after a shopper complained of a flavour difference in their milk.

A Hawke’s Bay store notified its customers that the withdrawal involved Anchor and Value milk with best-before dates of 21 and 24 February.

Unlike recalls, a withdrawal removes food from the distribution chain but does not extend to food already sold to consumers. According to Fonterra, the taste difference is likely to be due ‘to a type of feed one of [their] herds was eating,’ and the product is completely safe to drink.
The stores have already restocked with fresh bottles.
