Proper Crisps are excited to announce its expansion into Australia. Now owning a dedicated manufacturing plant for the use of Australian potatoes in the Australian crisp range, in the Yarra Valley, Victoria. They are making their mark on the Australian potato chip market.
Proper Crisps has been selling its New Zealand made crisps in the Australian market since 2019. They are currently stocked in 1500 stores across four states and are expecting sales to double in 2022. The decision to use Australian potatoes ensures the crisps are tailored to the Australian market. “We wanted to apply the same commitment we have to working with local suppliers and local produce in New Zealand in the Australian context,” said Andy Leonard, General Manager for Proper Crisps.
It is important to the owners and management of Proper Crisps that there is consistency between their Australian and New Zealand manufacturing. The development of using Australian grown potatoes was assisted by an agronomist and local farmers, with cooks managing the process from New Zealand. The new staff have been trained to match existing processes in Nelson, to ensure that they are "chefs of real food, not button pushers."
Nelson will remain the home to Proper Crisp's headquarters, but their goal of producing the bests crisps in the country now extends to the new venture across the ditch.
