UK | Dry January saw a remarkable surge in demand for No and Low alcohol beverages, with an impressive increase of nearly 10 percent compared to last year. No and Low spirits have experienced a staggering spike of almost 40 percent, while No and Low wine and beer/cider have seen rises of 20 percent and 15 percent, respectively.
This surge in demand follows a phenomenal year for No and Low drinks, marked by record-breaking sales across supermarkets. Even during the typically indulgent Christmas period, demand for these beverages soared by nearly 15 percent.
The standout performer in Dry January has been No and Low Spirits, with demand soaring by almost 40 percent compared to last year. The popular Tanqueray 0% gin leads the pack, which witnessed a remarkable surge of nearly 200 percent.
The volume of No and Low alcohol beer and cider sold at Tesco has witnessed a robust growth of over 15 percent compared to last Dry January. Noteworthy trends include a shift towards No and Low craft beer varieties such as Lucky Saint Hazy IPA, BrewDog Hazy Jane AF, and Thatcher's Zero cider.
Demand for No and Low alcoholic wine surged by nearly 20 percent in January compared to last year, with favourites like Kylie Minogue's 0% Sparkling Rosé leading the charge. Since its launch in late 2022, this premium alcohol-free wine has become the top-selling product in its category, experiencing a staggering sales increase of nearly 75 percent during Dry January.
Tesco's Beer, Wines, and Spirits Category Planning Manager, Ben Cole, said the increasing quality of No and Low alcohol products had fueled significant growth in this segment, with this January recording the supermarket's highest-ever customer demand.
The surge in No and Low alcohol drinks reflects a broader trend of moderation among UK drinkers, with a significant portion opting for lower-strength beverages to stay within low-risk drinking guidelines.
