The groceries are on Woolworths! Woolworths has helped fundraise for our local food rescue partner Kairos by offering a 60 second ‘trolley dash’ as an auction prize at Kairos’ recent Glammed Up for a Hand Up event.
The winning bidder's twin sons had the opportunity to grab as much as they could from the shelves of Woolworths Hornby, collecting an impressive $1,700 worth of groceries, ranging from an air fryer to chocolate liquorice.
Kairos has been Woolworths' food rescue partner in Ōtautahi Christchurch since last ye stepping in when Food Bank Canterbury collapsed. Woolworths provided $100,000 in funding, enabling Kairos to expand its operations from collecting from none to seven Woolworths stores across Christchurch. This partnership is part of Woolworths' broader commitment to food rescue, helping collect surplus, safe, edible food and distribute it to those in need.
A Woolworths New Zealand spokesperson shared, “We’re very happy to help out by offering the ‘trolley dash’ as a prize.”
Woolworths’ support extends beyond individual events like the trolley dash. The company also provides operational funding to various food rescue partners across Aotearoa New Zealand, with plans to invest over $1 million in their food rescue initiatives during FY2025, including contributions from customer donations.
Woolworths' collaboration with food rescue organisations like Kairos underlines their commitment to reducing food waste and addressing food insecurity in communities. Their funding and partnership initiatives aim to empower food rescue efforts and make a positive impact for those in need, while engaging customers and supporting local causes. Through contributions like these, Woolworths is playing a crucial role in supporting those affected by food insecurity across the country.
As with most grocery grab competitions, terms and conditions applied, including a 60-second time limit, restrictions on alcohol, tobacco, vapes, and meat, and a maximum of two of any single item.
