AUSTRALIA | Construction is officially underway on the new AUD 29 million neighbourhood shopping centre in Lauderdale, marking a significant milestone for the local community.
The shopping centre is expected to create more than 300 jobs throughout the life of the project, including more than 260 ongoing jobs and another 75 jobs during construction.
The Lauderdale shopping centre will feature a brand new Woolworths supermarket, as well as 13 specialty shops, including various food and beverage offerings.
Customers at the new Lauderdale Woolworths will have the opportunity to choose from an extensive range of local produce, including Tasmanian fresh milk, premium local cheeses, and locally made jams and honey.
Woolworths’ Tasmania Property Development Manager Nathan Dundovic said the centre will be a place where locals can shop, meet, and connect, and he was excited to see work underway on the project, which will give the community a new, convenient option for their weekly grocery shop.
Mayor Brendan Blomeley also welcomed the development, as it will provide greater access to groceries, retail, and services for residents in this fast-growing part of the city.
The development also features more than 220 car parking spots, an alfresco dining area, an eight-bay Direct to Boot service for convenient online order pickups, as well as more than 600 solar panels and eight EV charging stations.
Lauderdale is one of four new Woolworths supermarkets planned to open in Tasmania in the coming years. These new stores will create around 650 direct, ongoing jobs, plus hundreds of additional jobs during construction.
Woolworths’ commitment to Tasmania goes back 85 years. Today, Woolworths employs 5,200 people in the state, operates 32 supermarkets, and buys food from many Tasmanian farmers and suppliers.
