Woolworths Store Opens In New Gold Coast Shopping Centre

AUSTRALIA | The Upper Coomera Shopping Centre officially opened its doors in the Gold Coast, providing a modern hub for the local community.

Over the last 16 months, this modern neighbourhood centre has been built as a hub for the local community. At the heart of the centre is a brand new Woolworths supermarket, spread over 3,780 square metres, which proudly welcomes 110 team members from the region.

Locals will also find a BWS, chemist and eight other dining and retail services.

"The Upper Coomera Shopping Centre really shows what Woolworths Group is all about when it comes to making everyday shopping super convenient for local communities,” said Chris Sheehan, State Property Development Manager QLD at Woolworths Group.

“This development is a true testament to the hard work, dedication, and strong partnerships forged over many years of intricate planning, design, and construction by countless team members.”

Sheehan sincerely thanked the local community for their patience and understanding throughout the construction process as they undertook several road upgrades.

This included the construction of a new roundabout to service both the centre and adjoining developments, along with the provision of a dedicated signalised pedestrian crossing outside Upper Coomera State College to make it safer for the community.

A number of members from the local community, including students from Upper Coomera State College, State Member for Theodore Mark Boothman and Ward Councillor Donna Gates, attended the official opening.

“I am delighted to attend this official opening of the Upper Coomera Shopping Centre,” said Mark Boothman MP, Member for Theodore.

“The 42-million-dollar investment made by Woolworths in our local community will offer residents significant convenience in local shopping and create numerous local employment opportunities.”

Donna Gates, Councillor of Division 3 in the City of Gold Coast, added that although this approval was granted before she became the area representative, there is merit in meeting the needs of surrounding residents, providing retail opportunities close to many homes.

“The designation on the site has existed for many years, and activation will further enhance the shopping experience for Upper Coomera residents.”

Upper Coomera Woolworths includes a large fresh food market with Australian fruit and vegetables, as well as a bakery, deli and seafood counter.

With growing demand for flexible shopping options, the store includes eight Direct to Boot Bays for locals shopping online and looking to pick up their groceries on the go.

The store team is led by Luke Peters, who has been with Woolworths for more than 10 years. As store manager, he prepared the store over the last few weeks with his team for its official opening.

“My team and I are incredibly excited to hit the ground running and offer local residents a truly new and enhanced shopping experience,” said Luke Peters.

“A huge part of the journey to open our new store has been the fantastic opportunity to welcome 36 brand new team members from across the local community, as well as integrating 74 experienced team members who have moved from other stores. This blend of local talent and seasoned expertise means we're ready to serve with passion and efficiency from day one.”

Upper Coomera Shopping Centre is targeting a 4-Star Green Star development, rated by the Green Building Council of Australia.
