Sprig + Fern Brewing Co has released its newest beer, Bed of Hops. The beer is a tribute to the great hop grower Kim McGlashen, whose family have been growers since 1900 and were industry pioneers. Five generations later, the McGlashen family is the last of the 'originals' with Kim's son Brent now in charge.
The bottle's artwork features Kim McGlashen himself in the middle of what is the most critical stages of the hop harvest. During the drying process, it is common for the grower to only catch a few hours' sleep on a camp bed to keep an eye on the drying hops.
The beer is Sprig + Fern's first under the Bract Brewing program from NZ Hops Ltd, using trial hops and experimental brews that are open to feedback. This trial hop is #NZH102 and is punchy and fruity with citrus, sweet and lush berry aromatics.
