Z Energy, New Zealand's prominent transport energy company, has successfully opened an innovative EV charging facility in Auckland for large commercial vehicles and customers with trailers. The company's strategic move aligns with the evolving landscape of electric vehicles (EVs) and the imperative to provide on-the-go charging solutions for diverse transportation needs.
At Z Wiri Station Road, Z Energy has deployed cutting-edge 180kW ultra-fast charging capabilities. The initiative, co-funded in collaboration with the Energy Efficiency & Conservation Authority, introduces two spacious charging bays dedicated to accommodating trucks, sizable EVs, or those with trailers, ensuring a seamless charging experience on the move.
Situated in the industrial precinct of South Auckland, Z Wiri Station Road caters to a clientele primarily consisting of drivers operating large or heavy vehicles. Kieran Turner, Z's Head of EV Charging, emphasised the importance of establishing accessible public charging infrastructure to facilitate the transition of these vehicles to EVs.
Businesses, recognising the need to curb emissions, actively explore avenues to transition their vehicle fleets. Z Energy acknowledged the pivotal role EVs will play in this transition. It highlights the significance of public chargers, especially for larger vehicles, offering a cost-effective, rapid, on-the-go solution complementing home and workplace charging.
Z Energy is diligently working towards expanding its EV charging network, boasting over 100 light vehicle charging bays at select retail sites. The company's commitment to providing fast and ultra-fast chargers, ranging from 50 to 200 kilowatts, underscores its dedication to supporting the evolving needs of EV drivers.
Kieran highlights Z's strategic advantage in supporting EV drivers by deploying an on-the-go charging network. Leveraging its well-established retail service station network across Aotearoa, Z Energy positions itself as an ideal pitstop for customers, offering food, coffee, and other amenities along major travel corridors.
While the focus remains on increasing light vehicle charging bays at Z retail sites, Z Energy is eager to receive valuable customer feedback regarding the newly introduced larger bays. This feedback will play a pivotal role in shaping the future steps of Z's burgeoning EV charging network, further solidifying its position as a leader in sustainable and customer-centric solutions.
