Night ’n Day is set to expand its South Island presence through the transition of seven NPD convenience retail sites into the Night ’n Day network over time.
Founded in Dunedin in 1990, Night ’n Day has grown into one of New Zealand’s most recognised convenience retail brands, known for its strong foodservice offering, quality retail experiences, and locally operated stores, while NPD has built a similarly strong South Island reputation through high-quality sites, customer-focused retailing, and evolving foodservice offerings.
Both businesses share deep South Island roots and a long-standing focus on locally driven convenience retail.
Night ’n Day General Manager Matthew Lane said the transition represented a strong strategic fit between two businesses with aligned values and complementary strengths.
“There are a lot of similarities between the two businesses. Both are proudly family-owned, customer-focused, and built around strong local operators. These are high-quality sites with excellent fit-outs and standards that complement the Night ’n Day brand extremely well.”
Lane said the transition would carry forward successful elements from both businesses as the sites evolve over time.
“This isn’t about replacing everything overnight. There are components from both sides that we see real value in continuing. We’ll retain successful foodservice concepts customers already know and enjoy, while gradually introducing Night ’n Day’s wider offering across the network.”
The business said maintaining strong owner-operator involvement will remain a key priority throughout the transition process.
The sites include: • Redwood - Blenheim • Lower Queen Street - Nelson • Waimea - Nelson • Rolleston - Christchurch • Yaldhurst - Christchurch • Moorhouse - Christchurch • Frankton – Queenstown
“Owner-operators are at the heart of what we do. These stores will continue to be locally operated, and we’re excited about the opportunities this creates for both existing and future operators.”
NPD CEO Barry Sheridan said that the move strengthened the company’s ability to focus on its core mission of delivering competitive fuel prices for all motorists.
“Night ‘n Day is a strong fit; they’re a nationwide, family-owned business with values that align closely with ours, and we’re confident they’ll continue delivering a great convenience offering for customers," said Sheridan.
"This transition allows NPD to sharpen our focus on what we do best - providing Kiwis with quality fuel at competitive prices through our growing self-serve network, while Night ‘n Day brings its expertise in convenience retailing to these locations.”
The addition of the seven sites further strengthens Night ’n Day’s South Island network and reflects continued growth within New Zealand’s convenience retail and foodservice sector.
