AUSTRALIA | Viva Energy Group CEO Scott Wyatt said Viva Energy delivered a strong trading performance across all divisions in the third quarter ended 30 September 2026.
Strong regional refining market conditions continued to support elevated margins, with the Geelong refinery recovering as planned from the April fire.
Commercial demand remained robust, and the Convenience business also performed well, with continued growth in fuel demand and convenience sales.
3Q26 refining intake of 9.1 MMbbl reflected unplanned routine maintenance completed during the quarter and ongoing operational constraints following the April 2026 refinery fire, as previously guided.
The realised Geelong Refining Margin (GRM) averaged USD 18.5M in 3Q26. Excluding the impact of hedges, 3Q26 GRM averaged USD 23.4/bbl.
The Company has continued to work with its insurers to progress the claim to recover property damage and business interruption losses associated with the alkylation unit fire.
The Company will largely recognise any proceeds from business interruption recoveries in underlying earnings when the relevant recognition requirements are met, while accounting for property damage recoveries separately.
The Company will provide a further update as the claim process progresses.
Commercial & Industrial (C&I) sales volumes for 3Q26 were broadly in line with the prior comparable period, supported by continued strong demand across core commercial sectors despite higher fuel costs.
Convenience & Mobility (C&M) fuel sales volumes grew 1.1 percent relative to the prior comparable period, reflecting strong performance of the Company-controlled network (OTR, Reddy Express and Liberty Convenience).
Retail fuel margins were broadly in line with 3Q25. Convenience sales increased 3.8 percent compared with the prior comparable period. Average basket for the quarter grew year on year, supported by improved offers.
Convenience gross margins during 3Q26 averaged 37.9 percent, in line with 1H26 of 37.7 percent, but lower than the prior comparable period due primarily to stock adjustments reflecting improved stocktake and accounting processes following the implementation of the new supply chain.
The convenience supply chain transition is now complete, with the WA distribution centre commencing deliveries in October. This will enable the Company to exit the Coles Product Supply Agreement by the end of November 2026, and begin optimising suppliers, range and delivery processes.
