Based in Dargaville, Wild West Worcester is a family-owned business offering a range of sauces and relishes. Owned by Katie Le Noel, the company recently took home two bronzes in the World Hot Sauce Awards. Le Noel discussed their brand new website, expanding distribution and new flavour combinations with the team.
What is your company background, how did you start the business?
“I have been making my Worcester sauce for my very large extended family for years and years, and they all love it. Then their friends started getting hooked and so I started making it for them too.
The word has spread, and now I’ve started making it commercially for an even bigger market.
Our sauces are the culmination of countless tweaks and improvements, resulting in the flavour sensation we have today.”
What are the current product range and variants and how do these products stand out in the market?
“Our current range includes two international award-winning sauces; our Ghost Pepper Hot Sauce and our Hot Chilli Sweet Blacksauce, along with our popular Original Wild West Worcester Spicy Sweet Blacksauce. We also offer two outstanding relishes, our Sweet Beetroot Relish and our Sweet Pickled Onion Relish. Each one of our condiments is made the old-fashioned way; a whole lot of time, authentic recipes and absolutely no shortcuts.”
Has there been any recent company news?
“We were extremely proud to take home two bronzes in the World Hot Sauce Awards, which we think is pretty impressive for a family-owned business based in Dargaville.”
What are the plans for the business moving forward, is there any expansion on the horizon?
“The future is looking very exciting for Wild West Worcester; we’re expanding our distribution due to demand, and we’ve launched a brand new website with full e-commerce functionality so everything is moving along quite quickly. We’re full of plans to increase our product range, with some wild and wonderful flavour combinations in the works. Watch this space.”
Where are your products currently available to buy, and are you looking at or wanting to expand your availability? If so, where would you like to see the product situated?
“We currently offer all of our products online through our website, as well as in a variety of boutique stores and gift shops. We also have our sauces available in single serve sachets, so look for our WWW range of sauces in fast food outlets and butchers throughout New Zealand. We may look at expanding into larger supermarkets in the future. However, we are enjoying the ‘boutique’ market at the moment.
