Since the beginning of her retail career, Kellie Struth has been drawn to the pace and the clear link between effort and results.
She said that seeing the impact of work in real time was incredibly motivating, and that has kept her in the industry for three decades across a range of commercial roles, moving into the convenience sector six years ago.
Struth started as a casual at Target while still at school, studied retail and marketing, and built her career by learning what truly drives customer behaviour. Today, as Head of Category and Marketing, she focuses on balancing commercial performance with customer insight and inclusive leadership.
Leading and developing her team and seeing people step into roles they once doubted themselves for has been incredibly rewarding for Struth.
Her advice to others was simple: put your hand up for opportunities, trust your experience, and remember your perspective matters.
Confidence grows through action, not perfection.
“Speak up sooner and don’t underestimate your expertise. You don’t need to have all the answers to deserve a seat at the table," said Struth.
Over the years, Struth has been fortunate to work with strong leaders and peers who taught her to back herself, think commercially, and stay close to the customer. The opportunity to influence change continues to motivate her and how she thinks about customers, develops people, and leads.
“Retail has given me a fulfilling career, and I’m passionate about helping the next generation see the same possibilities in this industry.”
