AUSSIE STORE OWNER ACCUSED OF UNDERPAYING WORKERS

An IGA store owner in Fairfield, Melbourne, has been accused of underpaying young workers and submitting false records to the Fair Work Ombudsman.

According to claims, at least six staff members were paid flat rates ranging from AUS$15 and AUS$20 an hour, less than the minimum hourly rates. The underpayment amounted to a total of AUS$11,373 between 2013 and 2015.

Other allegations included failure to pay annual leave entitlements, uniform allowance, false time-and-wages records, and breaches relating to pay slips. The store owner faces maximum penalties of up to AUS$10,800 per contravention, and the Fair Work Ombudsman is also seeking an injunction restraining him from being involvement in underpaying workers in the future.
