Celebrating World Pasta Day

OzHarvest chef Giovanni Lo Surdo teaching Barilla Ambassador Melanie Lionello

This World Pasta Day, Barilla is challenging pasta lovers to combat food waste in the kitchen by giving pasta leftovers a second chance in its #SecondLifePasta campaign.

Approximately one-third of all food produced each year globally is lost or wasted, and with pasta being one of the world’s most popular dishes (438 million portions are served every day), there are countless opportunities to ensure each serve doesn’t go to waste.

Barilla has teamed up with OzHarvest to challenge Aussies to get inventive in the kitchen and reduce food waste. Barilla’s commitment will see 15,000 meals delivered to vulnerable people, 7,500kgs of food saved from the landfill, and 49,500kgs of greenhouse emissions prevented through avoiding food waste.

OzHarvest chef Giovanni Lo Surdo has shared his unique #SecondLifePasta dish by using up pasta leftovers - Fritelle Di pasta with Salad of Roast Capsicum, Cherry Tomatoes, Pickled Fennel, Shaved Zucchini and Herbs.

“Barilla is a proud supporter of OzHarvest, and in addition to a monetary donation, Barilla is also providing an in-kind donation of food products to help the organisation deliver delicious, nutritious food to charities across Australia that support people in need,” said a Barilla Spokesperson.
