Costco New Zealand Experiences Delay

Costco New Zealand experiences delays

Covid and weather delays have pushed back the opening of New Zealand's very first Costco store. The massive Westgate facility was set to open at the end of August, however, members recently recieved an email saying an exact open date could not yet be provided.

It has also been reported that the company has not yet hired enough staff to fulfil the needs of the $100 million, 14,740 square metre warehouse.

This is not the first time the store has experienced delays. Construction was supposed to start back in August 2020 but had to be delayed due to Covid restrictions.

Costco memberships are $60 annually and contribute to the company's ability to provide such low product prices. It is uncertain yet how the store opening will impact current grocery players.
