This trend report captures some of the key influences and long-term observations around large-scale retail. Everything from automation and format experimentation to approaches around shopper engagement and new revenue streams.
There are omissions. The global chaos in supply and demand that has resulted in some retailers holding too much inventory while others try and stabilise demand pipelines is something not covered mainly as it’s a consequence of the last three years as opposed to a building trend.
Digital transformation and the leveraging of data is something explicitly covered by most consultancies and retailers are by and large on the path to developing smarter supply-chain and inventory management as well as pricing/buying models.
Instead, within the trends there is a distinct skew to customer: acquisition, experience and retention. They are broad strokes but suffice to say the trends cover less ‘brilliant basics’ and more ‘beyond retail’.
We are experiencing a period of retail revolution and for those retailers seeking long-term relevancy and viability these trends are designed as quick-fire thought-starters.
