As anticipated, New World Milford replacement store will finally open on May 3 at 8.15am, after the finishing touches have been put on.

Opened in 1964 as the first New World-branded supermarket in Auckland, the old store was demolished in March 2015.
“After 50 years we thought it was time to update the store to provide our loyal customers with an exciting new supermarket full of natural light and lovely wide aisles in which to do their shopping,” said Tony Catton, acting general manager, property development, Foodstuffs North Island.

The 2,340sqm store will provide an additional 40 percent retail space than the previous one, employing 90 staff.
“This is a heritage supermarket that is going to look completely different and new,” said Sarah Aston, owner-operator of NW Milford. “It will be a fantastic store, with an even greater array of fresh food, an exciting new-look deli, a mouth-watering bakery and a top-end butchery.”

The new supermarket had initially been scheduled to open in time for Christmas,  but construction was delayed five months because of poor ground conditions.
