The Love NZ soft plastic packaging recycling scheme has broadened its reach with the addition of Hamilton, and further expansion has been planned to Canterbury in June and Greater Wellington in September.
Ninety Countdown, New World, PAK’nSAVE and The Warehouse stores across Auckland and the Waikato currently offer the programme, which allows shoppers to drop off their plastic bags and wrappers for recycling. According to the Packaging Forum, which has set a target of a ten percent reduction by 2020 through partnerships between industry and local government, around 2.8 million units of packaging have been collected so far.
