THOUSANDS OF LAMINGTONS TO SUPPORT ALZHEIMER’S APPEAL

Countdown has confirmed its support of Alzheimer’s Auckland. Until 22 July, New Zealanders can donate 20 cents to Alzheimer’s New Zealand by purchasing a six-pack of lamingtons from Countdown. The retail chain plans to bake and sell over 60,000 packets, using four tonnes of eggs and more than three tonnes of flour. Countdown’s bakers will make 128 batches, spending 1,260 hours mixing and baking chocolate, strawberry and lemon-flavoured lamingtons.
Last year, the company raised $48,000 for the cause. “We encourage people to donate in store, or pick up a pack of lamingtons and share them with friends and family, all in the name of supporting the hard working volunteers and carers who support those with dementia,” said James Walker, general manager of corporate affairs, Countdown.
