Spoof Membership Programme

Spoof Membership Programme

USA | Last month, ALDI unleashed a new membership programme that defied conventions in a groundbreaking move that captured the nation's attention. America’s third largest grocer dropped a spoof membership programme that costs nothing and includes everyone.

ALDI+, the ultimate grocery membership, garnered a staggering 331.9 million members on its first day - equivalent to the entire U.S. population. In what looks less like an April Fool and more like a  PR stunt, ALDI’s message goes on to explain that “it’s not really a membership. Because there is no membership. Cause you don’t need one to save at ALDI.”

This membership programme does not actually exist. ALDI said that unlike other stores, they don’t make consumers sign up for a membership to save, consumers can save up to 40 percent on groceries compared to other stores just by shopping at ALDI - no membership and no membership fees required.

Kinda makes you wonder why other stores have memberships at all? Why don’t they just…lower their prices?

ALDI+ differs from typical membership programmes, every shopper is automatically enrolled; no sign-up is required. This isn't just a spoof, it's pointing out to consumers that you don't need a card, that ALDI are providing daily access to quality products at low prices all the time.

Synonymous with simplicity and efficienty, ALDI+ is no exception. With its straightforward approach to operations, ALDI continues to redefine the grocery landscape. Every day, at every location nationwide, shoppers can count on great products at unbeatable prices.

ALDI is again taking charge of reimagining the grocery shopping experience, and taking on competitors with this April spoof that just garnered them a lot of attention from consumers.
