Tesco has once again collaborated with its suppliers of popular household brands, including Andrex, Aquafresh, Bodyform, Radox, Sure, and Wilkinson Sword, to distribute millions of personal care items to people in need.
Until the 11th of June every two purchases of essential hygiene products by Tesco customers from a selected range will result in its suppliers donating a third hygiene item directly to charity, In Kind Direct.
“Many people experiencing hygiene poverty face the impossible decision of whether to heat, eat, or keep clean daily, and unfortunately, more and more people are being pushed into this position,” said Rosanne Gray, CEO at In Kind Direct.
“We know hygiene poverty disproportionately affects those already struggling, but the research shows that financial difficulties now impact everyone.”
Last autumn, Tesco partnered with its suppliers to address the increasing levels of need, and as part of the campaign, over two million products have already been donated.
Unilever, Essity, Haleon, and Kimberly Clark are participating in the campaign again, and they are joined by a new partner, Edgewell.
In Kind Direct will distribute these products among thousands of charities, community groups, food banks, and schools across the UK to provide much-needed hygiene products to those who need them.
A recent research commissioned by Essity in partnership with Tesco and In Kind Direct has highlighted how hygiene poverty is affecting people.
Families are the most affected by this, and the survey revealed that 32 percent of households with dependents have gone without hygiene products such as shampoo or deodorant.
The survey also found that those who had difficulty buying hygiene products in the last year have had to borrow from friends or family, use free products in public areas or receive items from a charity.
“This new research highlights how the number of families impacted by hygiene poverty has grown in recent years,” said Thomas Maier, Category Buying Manager for Beauty and Personal Care at Tesco.
“That is why the work done by In Kind Direct to help people is so important, and we are really pleased to be working again with our suppliers to provide hygiene products where they are needed most.”
