A Whittaker’s chocolate wrapper has won best in Gravure process for the second year running in Pride In Print Awards.
The Whittaker’s Dark Ghana Fruit and Nut 72% Cocoa 250g block wrapper was embellished with realistic images of chocolate pieces surrounded by gold.
It was entered by Gravure Packaging Limited under Flexible Packaging food & beverage.
Judges praised both its design and print, saying it was an iconic piece of design and a ‘good looking job’ with a ‘good clean print’.
The wrapper was printed on 115gsm in six colours plus gloss on a modified rotogravure machine HD at high speed, 393m wide web press, which gave it the crisp images. Prepress was done in-house and the entry came from a 100,000 lineal metre print run.
Last year, Gravure Packaging won category and process for a similar product, the Whittaker’s Dark Almond 250g block, which was printed for the first time on a gravure HD cylinder engraving machine used for paper, which has enhanced the pictures with much better resolution.
Judges last year said it was hard to get the Whittaker’s gold exactly right, and in the past often the jobs were harshly marked for this. The gold this year was exceptional and highlighted how Gravure Packaging continued to push the boundaries.
