Woolworths Freezes Shelf Prices On Staples

Woolworths Freezes Shelf Prices On Staples

AUSTRALIA | As Australian families face renewed budget pressures from higher interest rates, elevated fuel prices and global uncertainty, Woolworths is freezing the shelf price of popular products.

The new Price Freeze, effective tomorrow, Friday the 1st of May, means that for the next three months, the shelf price of these 300 everyday supermarket own- or exclusive-brands will not increase.

Woolworths will invest to freeze the prices by absorbing any rising costs agreed with suppliers for these products, so that the shelf price customers pay won’t go up.

The Price Freeze items are in addition to the value Woolworths provides through weekly specials, Everyday Rewards, and more than 4,000 products on Everyday Low Price or Lower Shelf Price.

Products on Price Freeze include a range of family staples, including:

  • Woolworths Hot Roast Chicken
  • Woolworths Soft Bread Range 650g and 700g range
  • Woolworths Cage Free Eggs XL 12 pack 700g
  • Woolworths RSPCA Chicken Breast Fillets regular and bulk packs
  • Woolworths Pork Sausages 10 pack 550g and Woolworths Thin Beef Sausages 10 pack 550g
  • Woolworths Pasta 500g range
  • Woolworths Frozen Mixed Berries 1kg and 500g packs
  • Little One's Nappy Range
  • Vevelle Luxury Soft Toilet Tissue 3ply 24 pack
  • Woolworths Essentials Facial Tissues White 2ply 224 pack

Products on Price Freeze will also remain eligible for promotion, providing even more value than the regular shelf price.

Amanda Bardwell, Woolworths Group CEO, said the conflict in the Middle East has brought a new wave of uncertainty, and customers are worried about what it means for their household budget.

"While we don’t know how long these challenges will last, or what the full impact of higher costs will be on our customers’ favourite products, we know a little certainty can go a long way," said Bardwell.

“That’s why, for the next three months, we’re freezing the shelf price on 300 staples that families rely on most, like eggs, chicken breast fillets, pasta, beef sausages and nappies. It's our promise that the shelf price you see on these items today is the most you'll pay for the next three months.

We'll invest to absorb any extra costs that are agreed with suppliers on these products to make that happen.

The Price Freeze comes as cost pressures faced by Australian suppliers begin to impact some prices across supermarkets.

“We know we need to strike the right balance for everyone who relies on Woolworths. We're committed to doing the right thing for our customers, our team, transport partners and especially our Aussie farmers who are facing rising fuel, fertiliser and packaging costs," she added.

"We will continue to work closely, and fairly, with all our suppliers to navigate the months ahead. We want to support our suppliers where we can so they can operate sustainably as their costs rise, while we do our part to provide stability and value at the checkout for our shared customers.”

Customers can view the full list of products included in the Price Freeze on the Woolworths website from tomorrow.
