Woolworths Hauraki Corner To Become FreshChoice

Woolworths Hauraki Corner will open as FreshChoice Hauraki Corner in June, bringing the FreshChoice brand to Auckland’s iconic North Shore for the first time, and with it, a significantly expanded fresh food offer tailored to the local community.

Incoming owner-operator Sanjesh Chauhan, a FreshChoice member for ten years and current franchisee of FreshChoice Titirangi, said the refreshed store has been designed from the ground up to become the number one destination for Hauraki Corner locals.

“This is about giving the community a store that genuinely reflects what they want from their local supermarket,” said Chauhan.

“More range, more fresh, more quality, and more reasons to shop local every day of the week.”

What shoppers can expect at FreshChoice Hauraki Corner:

  • An expanded fresh produce department, with a wider range of everyday favourites, seasonal lines, and a strengthened organic offer.
  • An in-house butchery delivering the kind of quality and service you’d expect from a specialist butcher.
  • An artisan bakery with freshly baked breads, pastries, and specialty items.
  • A service deli featuring premium meats, cheeses, antipasti, and ready-to-eat options for busy families and foodies alike.
  • A broader grocery range, including local, artisan, and specialty products you won’t find in a standard supermarket format.
  • The most modern FreshChoice store format, with updated layout, improved flow, and convenience features designed around how locals would like to shop.

According to Chauhan, the Hauraki Corner community deserved a new format store.

“We’ve spent 10 years at Titirangi learning how to tailor a store to its neighbourhood, knowing customers by name, understanding what they want on the shelves, and backing local where we can. We’re bringing all of that to Hauraki Corner,” said Chauhan, who will continue to own and operate both FreshChoice Titirangi and the new store.

FreshChoice Executive General Manager Tim Cartwright said the decision to convert the Woolworths Hauraki Corner store to FreshChoice was made after a review of how the store can best meet the needs of locals, now and into the future.

“Our FreshChoice franchise model focuses on local owner-operators and brings to life a tailored offer to suit local communities. It’s significant for FreshChoice as we establish our first store on Auckland’s iconic North Shore, and it speaks to the strength of our locally led business model,” said Cartwright.

“We have signed an agreement with Sanjesh and have consulted with team members on the proposal, which was confirmed this week. Sanjesh will be hiring for several roles at FreshChoice Hauraki Corner, for which team members will be able to apply.”

Woolworths Hauraki Corner will close on Sunday, the 14th of June, to undergo its transformation, and FreshChoice Hauraki Corner expects to open its doors to the community on Tuesday, the 23rd of June.
