Checkout-Free Shopping

Checkout-Free Shopping

ALDI has officially launched ALDIgo, a checkout-free shopping experience.

Powered by Grabango, the full-sized grocery store has used computer vision technology to speed up checkout.

ALDI has set a new standard in the U.S. grocery retail industry by introducing checkout-free technology in a pre-existing, full-sized store. Located in Chicago, this store offers shoppers the ultimate convenience of skipping the line and saving valuable time.

Will Glaser, founder and CEO of Grabango, spoke highly about the partnership and its opportunities.

“The launch of ALDIgo is a pivotal moment for the grocery industry. ALDI is one of the most innovative retailers in the world, and we are honoured to partner with them to give their shoppers an exciting new way to shop the store,” said Glaser.

To create this experience, Grabango technology was added to an existing ALDI location without changing the store’s planogram or display products. The technology, which has usedcomputer vision to identify and keep track of every item in the store, allows shoppers to exit without waiting in lines or scanning items.

“It’s exciting to see a checkout-free capability live in one of our stores,” said Eric Traxler, vice president of IT at ALDI.

“ALDI is continuously looking for new ways to be innovative and provide a best-in-class experience for our shoppers, and ALDIgo is a great example of that in action.”

To use Granbango, customers will begin their grocery shop normally, without the use of special carts or shelves.

When finished, shoppers can pay with their credit cards or through the Grabango app at the Grabango pay station near the exit. Shoppers still have the option to check out with a traditional cashier if needed.

Grabango is the leading provider of checkout-free technology, using AI to process millions of simultaneous transactions accurately. The system places no limits on who can enter the store, what can be sold and how shelving is configured.
