SPAR Netherlands Opens At Two Universities

SPAR Netherlands university retailer to open stores on university campuses in Arnhem and Nijmegen

THE NETHERLANDS | In collaboration with Compass Group Netherlands, SPAR Netherlands’ university retailer will open two stores on the HAN University of Applied Sciences campuses in Arnhem and Nijmegen during the second quarter of 2025.

The new SPAR store in Arnhem will be located in the former Douwe Egberts Café on campus. In Nijmegen, the SPAR store will open in the former student pub on the Kapittelweg.

Both locations will be transformed into modern SPAR stores, specially designed to function as the ideal place for students, whether they want to take a break while enjoying something tasty, study, or get together with other students.

Compass Group Netherlands has been a leading caterer for creating tasty and innovative hospitality concepts. With expertise in serving a wide range of target audiences, such as students and professionals, this iwas the perfect match with SPAR Netherlands university retailer.

By joining forces, the companies will bring together the best of both worlds by offering a unique mix of retail and hospitality, in which convenience and great shopping experience are central.

Meanwhile, work is underway on further development of the SPAR university stores app.

“Developments are ongoing but the good news is that a new loyalty programme will soon be launched! With this initiative, SPAR stores on university campuses not only want to make the lives of students easier, but also more affordable,” said Martijn ten Berge, owner of the SPAR university stores in the Netherlands.
