Z Grows EV Charging Network

Z continues to support EV road users with growing EV charging network

In 2024, Z Energy (Z) continued to grow its EV charging network across New Zealand.

This growth was aligned with Z's broader strategy to support customers with mobility, energy and convenience as they embark on their transition journeys.

“As one of New Zealand’s top transport energy companies, along with providing customers with traditional fuels, we believe we have an important role to play as an EV charging provider,” said Elicia Hill, Head of EV Charging Public Network.

The recent holiday period saw more EV drivers take advantage of Z’s on-the-go charging network as they headed away on their summer road trips.

“We saw a 27 percent increase of total EV charging customers across the Z network for the month of December compared to November. Our busiest site for the month was Z Turangi, a key stop for North Island holiday makers, which was upgraded last year to include a total of eight charging bays.”

With the summer season still in full swing, Z has been working on continuing to grow its EV charging network with a focus on making sure each EV charging site is fit for purpose.

“We strategically select sites to show up where we believe our customers need us to be. Our focus is on installing fast or ultra-fast charging infrastructure that enables customers to charge efficiently, and (where practical) we install multiple charging bays to serve demand and relieve congestion.”

Recent Z sites offering EV charging include Z Taipa in the Far North and Z Kennedy Road in Napier.

Additional bays have been added at Z Turangi and Z Waiouru, and the addition of EV charging at Z Queenstown has made Z’s most southern EV charging site. These sites provide coverage along some of New Zealand’s major routes and offer more charging options for EV owners.
