Pacrite

Over the past thirty years, Pacrite has collaborated with some of New Zealand’s most well-known brands. The company puts their success down to their clients, they have taught them everything they know, and made them into a specialist team of packaging problem solvers.

What is your company background, how did you start the business? Who are the owners?

“We are a proudly owned and operated family business, founded over thirty years ago by Brent Mackway-Jones, who is still active in the business to this day. Brent works alongside his eldest daughter Victoria Dickinson, who is very much an industry baby, having being involved in the business for nearly fifteen years.”

“The company mentality has always been solution focused; finding ways to say yes as opposed to no, which required a lot of ‘out of the box’ thinking. Being flexible, creative and willing has allowed us to grow and work with some amazing clients.”

What are the current services do you provide?

“We provide completely customised packaging solutions to our clients. We spend considerable time in consultation to understand their exact needs and then creating a packaging solution to suit their unique business and product. Our clients range from start-ups to multi-nationals and leading brands throughout New Zealand. We work alongside design and marketing teams as well as production managers to ensure our solutions not only fit the aesthetic brief, but are also highly functional.”

“We create stand up pouches, barrier films, wicket bags, coffee bags, printed reel-stocks, technical skin films and thermoforming webs, as well as lidding films and spouted pouches – just to name a few. Our technical expertise, combined with creative thinking allows us to deliver solutions which not only look great on the shelf but also protect the integrity of the product being packed.”

“By working with leading manufacturing plants around the globe, we have access to an impressive range of substrates, packaging styles and print solutions. This allows us so much flexibility when presented with a packaging ‘wish list’ by existing or potential clients. We are able to craft the perfect packaging solution to fit the brief and in addition, our clients also benefit from our buying power and logistics management which can save a lot of time and money.”

Has there been any recent company news?

“Our digital print solution has been a really exciting development for our clients. We have been able to assist them in breaking into new markets, expanding their range, gaining exports and with improving speed to market.  It has been such an exciting addition to our services, and one we spent many years developing. We can now support brands with ‘toe dipping’ into new territory or products, or with limited, seasonal SKUS without the restriction of large manufacturing quantities or setup costs. As our clients expand, we can seamlessly transition them into more cost-effective packaging solutions, without needing to completely re-invent the wheel.”

“We are also really proud of the growth of our philanthropic work through our charity Warming Hearts NZ – founded by our General Manager Victoria Dickinson. Through the development of the charity, which provides warmth to babies in need, we have been able to enforce our company values around the importance of family. When presented with a problem; we roll up our sleeves and implement a solution. This is synonymous with how we approach our packaging projects.”

What are the plans for the business moving forward, is there any expansion on the horizon?

“The environmental impact of packaging is obviously a key focal point for our business and something we feel passionate about.  Our team have been working behind the scenes on a range of sustainable solutions to packaging, both compostable and recyclable. We embrace and encourage the ethos of Reduce, Re-Use & Recycle when developing new packaging for our clients. Customised solutions are a great place to start for creating packaging with less impact and a better life cycle. We use only what is needed and consider several factors in the packaging development phase. Consideration is given around our client’s target market, consumer behaviour, logistics, packaging function and economic viability and end of life. – it’s a complex process with many stumbling blocks. It has been disheartening to see many knee-jerk, reckless solutions thrown out into the market this year, often causing consumer confusion. We encourage any brand to talk to us for a comprehensive discussion regarding sustainability and ‘eco-friendly’ packaging before committing to an alternative.”

How are you different from other packaging companies? What sets you apart from the crowd?

“We are an approachable, honest and creative team who don’t judge a customer on their size. Small or large, we have developed packaging solutions to cover every client's needs. Whether they need 500 printed pouches or 500,000, we like to think we can always find a packaging solution. Our clients have often commented on how refreshing it is to partner with a supplier who gives them time and explains everything in a language that makes sense. We translate the technical, delivering it in a way that makes sense to all parties involved – from marketing departments to the production floor.”

“We encourage anyone who is looking to re-brand, change things up or who don’t know where to begin, to have a confidential chat with us.”
