Walmart stores across Canada are implementing a computer vision AI solution from Focal Systems to automate out-of-stock detection. The technology will be integrated into existing inventory systems, with real-time detection on low or out-of-stock items that then direct staff to replenish the shelves.
“We know it can be disappointing for customers when we don’t have products they want available on our shelves. That’s why we initiated this pilot using technology from Focal Systems that takes the guesswork out of knowing when a product is out of stock. This leading-edge technology provides real-time, automated alerts for replenishment in key priority areas within our stores. Walmart is one of the first Canadian retailers to deploy an AI shelf solution. Grocery, pets, health & beauty, frozen, and dairy are departments that will particularly benefit from the technology.
