Making Strides For Sustainability

Kellogg's

As millions around the globe mark World Environment Day, Kellogg Company has highlighted its progress in 2022 against Kellogg's Better Days Promise commitments to nurture the planet.

Included in the highlights was the company's 31.1 percent reduction of its scope one and two greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, with a 13 percent reduction in scope three GHG emissions since 2015.

A further 40.3 percent of Kellogg's electricity was used from renewable sources in 2022, with a 17 percent reduction in water use from high-stress regions since 2015 and a 23 percent reduction in food waste since 2016.

Finally, Kellogg's reported that 76 percent of the company's packaging was recyclable at scale.

As part of Kellogg's Better Days Promise strategy, the company has adopted a comprehensive range of commitments and practices to decrease its impact on the planet, addressing areas such as climate change, responsible sourcing, and food waste, including reducing absolute scope one and two GHG emissions by 45 percent by the end of 2030, and progressing towards 100 percent renewable electricity in global Kellogg manufacturing facilities by the end of 2050.

Furthermore, the company plans to reduce water use in global Kellogg manufacturing facilities in high-water stress regions by 30 percent by 2030 and food waste across Kellogg-owned manufacturing facilities by 50 percent by the end of 2030.

"The relationship between the health of our planet and that of people is inextricable. Our changing climate is reducing crop yields, leading to greater food insecurity that disproportionately affects diverse and underserved communities," said Kellogg Company's Chief Sustainability Officer, Janelle Meyers.

"While we have more work to do, we've made significant progress towards reducing our environmental impact and creating a climate-positive value chain."
