Aligning With Real Living Wage

Aldi

UK | Starting from February 1, 2024, Aldi is set to become the first supermarket to guarantee a minimum hourly wage of £12.00 for all store and warehouse colleagues. This move makes Aldi the first supermarket to align its rates with the Real Living Wage established by the Living Wage Foundation in October of the previous year. In the London area (within the M25), the minimum rate will increase to £13.55.

As part of Aldi's £67 million investment in colleague pay, Store Assistants' wages will increase to £12.95 nationally and £13.85 within the M25, considering their length of service. Notably, Aldi is the only supermarket offering paid breaks, providing an additional value of over £900 per year for the average store colleague.

Giles Hurley, Chief Executive Officer of Aldi UK and Ireland, is passionate about Aldi’s commitment to being the highest-paying supermarket, emphasising his gratitude towards every member of Team Aldi for their hard work. The wage increase is seen as a recognition of their contribution to making Aldi successful today.

Aldi's recognition as the UK's Cheapest Supermarket by consumer champion Which? in November 2023 and its previous titles in 2021 and 2022 reinforces the supermarket's commitment to providing value to customers. Aldi has consistently demonstrated its dedication to being the cheapest supermarket, marked by over £360 million in price reductions across 800 items throughout the year.

As the fourth-largest supermarket in the UK, Aldi operates over 1,000 stores 11 regional distribution centres, and employs 40,000 colleagues across Britain. The wage increase announcement aligns with Aldi's ongoing efforts to prioritise its workforce and customers.
