Countdown Opens in Balclutha

New COuntdown store opens in Balclutha

Balclutha welcomed its new Countdown store yesterday, opening its doors after 12 months of construction. The store was an $18 million project that created over 80 new jobs for the community.

“Opening Countdown Balclutha is another milestone in our $50 million programme of investment in Otago and Southland, with a further four new store or existing store renovation projects that we’re aiming to deliver over a 12 month period.” Said Matt Granger, Countdown's Director of Property.

The new store has a number of special features including electronic shelf labels, customer bike racks, a transcritical refrigeration system and doors and fridges that reduce energy use. They have also partnered with The Salvation Army to divert food that is still good enough to eat but can no longer be sold in store.

“It’s been fantastic working with the Countdown team right from the start and throughout the design and construction process, and it’s awesome to now walk through the doors and see how it’s all come together. I’m really pleased to see the thoughtfulness that Countdown has put into developing this modern, sustainable space for our community.” Said Bryan Cadogan, the Mayor of Clutha.

Countdown Balclutha is located at 8-12 Clyde Street, Balclutha, Otago and is open 8am - 9pm, seven days a week.
