Kai Commitment is a voluntary agreement between leading food sector businesses designed to reduce food waste and emissions from food waste. The commitment launches in November with founding signatories - Countdown, Goodman Fielder, Fonterra and Silver Fern Farms.

Supported by the Ministry of Environment, Kai Commitment is an NZ Food Waste Champions initiative.

New Zealand landfills comprise an estimated 9-17 percent of food, which is an economic loss of NZ$1.17-2 billion per annum. One study measured 60,500 tonnes of unsold food in retail per annum in New Zealand, of which 23 percent ended up in the landfill.

The FGC Sustainability Working Group invites members to attend a webinar on October 5th at 10 am to learn more.
