Sustainable Growth: Anuga’s 2023 Theme

Anuga is focused on the future by prioritising the environment with their 2023 theme, Sustainable Growth.

As a leading global trade fair with international recognition, making Sustainable Growth the event's focus places it on the industry agenda over a worldwide scale.

Anuga’s emphasis on sustainability aims to constructively discuss and inspire globally feasible solutions to ease tensions between economic growth and the ongoing desire for sustainability in the face of growing climate issues impacting the food industry. These topics will be at the centre of their ten trade shows and will be addressed in detail at Anuga’s event and congress programme.

The pressure on the food industry worldwide has only grown. Global population growth of an estimated ten billion people by 2050, including increased demand for foodstuffs, particularly protein, is expected to only amount to the current challenges. Simultaneously, the impacts of climate change are felt most by the agriculture industry, water and energy shortages and weaning biological diversity affecting produce and supply.

Constant inflation of energy and food costs, and the effects of humanitarian and social dynamics, such as the Ukrainian and Russian conflict, which have resulted in disrupted supply chains, exacerbate the stresses of a strained industry.

Anuga recognises that these issues highlight the immediate need for solutions that can sustainably improve the global systems under which the food industry operates.

"The key challenge of the future will be promoting economic growth and sustainable development while ensuring the necessary natural resources are still available,” explained the Director of Anuga Stefanie Mauritz.

The food fair will be a unique networking opportunity to exchange innovative ideas and solutions. In partnership with the European Insititute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), Anuga’s congress and events programme will include various conferences, workshops, experience areas, and speaker sessions where the discussion will focus on sustainable growth.

Topics of discussion will specifically address the realisation of sustainable development goals (SDGs), the transparency and traceability of supply chains and products, more climate-friendly production, resource-saving raw material cultivation, food waste, and methods to achieve a circular food system.

“In a time of disruptive change, which is influencing the global market sustainably, together with the exhibiting companies, leading institutions, and experts, at Anuga, we offer the opportunity for an intensive exchange of ideas and solutions.”

The advancement of technology within the food industry will be a crucial driver for implementing solution-based changes. However, the event allows companies to reveal their considerations of the industry's current state-of-the-art innovations.

Earning their place as the world’s leading food fair, Anuga's number of applications has resulted in 98 percent of the available surface area within the exhibition already taken.

Anuga will occur in Cologne from the 7th to the 11th of October, 2023.
