A Temporary Sweet Switcheroo

Proper Crisps

After Cyclone Gabrielle’s devastating weather crippled Northland’s kūmara supply earlier this year, Nelson-based Proper Crisps called on the crop’s Australian cousin, the sweet potato.

This summer, kūmara is taking a summer holiday from Proper Crisps’ popular snack offering, tagging in sweet potato in a ‘temporary sweet switcheroo’. At the same time, farmers work to get kūmara crops back to fighting fit and resume their chippy duties.

Arriving in October, Proper Crisps Sweet Potato will be cooked by hand in the brand’s second factory in Yarra Valley, dishing out to both sides of the Tasman until kūmara is back in action.
